Rex Research Institute is a fictional organization in Counter-Strike Online.
Background
They are an organization of doctors and scientists who are creating a medicine for immortality. Their experiment on living things had created a zombies apocalypse. The zombies escaped from the lab and starts infecting people. This was also the place were Jennifer was captured and kept alive as a human experimental subject.
Structure
There are several maps showing this institute:
- Rex - The main laboratory, Terrorists' threat to destroy the lab.
- Roof - The rooftop battle, engaging the Terrorists from escaping the institute after the bombing of the main lab. There is no sign of any zombies yet.
- Abyss - Rex Research Institute first view after the bombing incident, showing the basement of Rex. Counter-Terrorists combine their forces with the Terrorists to survive the zombie attacks.
- Abyss2 - The Rex savior team detects the survivors (the players) and send their weapons to help the survivors surviving the evoluted zombies.
- Chaos - The survivors must find the way out of the Rex maze basement by following orders from Rex savior team leader/
- Cube - The human are forces to play the death game which was planned by Doctor Rex in a simple lab. They were separated into two teams, red team and blue team and have a race of killing zombies. The human will try to be the survivors by whatever means.

Rex Research Institute has developed these weapons and products after the zombie incident:
- Dual Nighthawks (freely supplied to humans in supply boxes in Zombie battlefields except the first battle)
- Dual MP7A1s (freely supplied to humans in supply boxes in Zombie battlefields)
- AK-47 60R (freely supplied but rarely found to humans in supply boxes in Zombie battlefields)
- Skull-7 (the first weapon chambered with the 5.56mm Anti-zombie cartridge, anti-zombie upgrade version of the FN Minimi)
- Skull-5 (a sharpshooter marksman sniper rifle designed for engaging zombies, based on the M14 EBR)
- Skull-9 (a battleaxe made with special metal)
- SL8 Rex Edition 2011 (a modified version of the German made SL8 sporting rifle)
- M134 Rex Edition (a modified version of the Minigun which could reduce the static time)
- Skull-1 (a break-frame double-action revolver designed for anti-zombie purposes, seems to be based with the MP412 REX.)
- 5.56 AZ (a cartridge based on the 5.56mm which for engaging zombies. It is chambered in Skull firearms only)
- .50 AZ (a high-caliber pistol cartridge based on the .50 AE which designed for anti-zombie purposes,it's used by the Skull-1)
